Neidermire has served as a volunteer assistant coach on the women’s water polo staff for the last three seasons.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State women's water polo Head Coach Shana Welch has announced Katie Card Neidermire has been promoted to a full-time assistant coach effective for the 2023-24 academic year.
"I am extremely excited that Katie will be joining us full time this year," said Welch. "She has served this program the last 3 years as a volunteer assistant coach, where she's established great relationships with the team, the staff, and this community. Having Katie here is incredible for the program as she has an extensive and impressive coaching and playing background. She understands our program and players and what we are trying to achieve on a daily basis."
Neidermire has been a member of the Beach coaching staff for the last three seasons with the upcoming 2024 spring season marking her fourth year. Since joining the staff, she has helped guide the Beach to a 36-30 overall record and a pair of top three finishes in the Big West standings.
Last year, Long Beach State posted an 18-8 overall record, including three wins over top ten ranked programs. The .692 winning percentage marked their best season since the 2013 campaign. The team also came in as high as number six in the national polls during the year, the highest ranking for the program since 2005, ultimately finishing as the eighth ranked team in the nation.
On an individual level, Neidermire has helped mentor five All-Americans, three Academic All-District selections, and six All-Big West honorees. Last year the trio of Elisa Portillo, Racheal Kowalchick, and Martina Cardona all earned All-American and All-Conference honors.
Welch continued, "She has already proven to be a tremendous asset for this program over the last several years and we are thrilled to continue building on that. Katie's knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm for Long Beach and our people will continue to strengthen this program as we continue to move towards our goals. We couldn't be happier to have Katie and her family on board."
