A standout collegiate golfer, Nielsen spent last season as assistant coach at Holy Names University.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Women's Golf Head Coach Alyssa Waite has announced that Lexi Nielsen will join the coaching staff as an assistant starting immediately for the upcoming 2023-24 campaign.
"I am very excited to have Lexi on board," said Waite. "She brings experience and perspective from coaching on the men's side of college golf as well as playing experience on the women's side. I believe she will make an impact right away with her philosophy around the mental game; one that aligns with my own and what we're trying to build with the program."
Utilizing her COVID year, Nielsen played for five seasons at Sonoma State, serving as team captain for two seasons and earning All-America Scholar honors in all five seasons. Over the course of her career, Nielsen set the individual round record of 66 with the Seawolves and was named All-CCAA in three seasons.
The winner of two individual medals with Sonoma State, Nielsen was also part of plenty of team success, setting the low team tournament record of 286 during her time there while also playing a part in 10 team tournament victories as well.
Immediately turning to coaching following her graduation, Nielsen spent last season working with Holy Names University in Oakland. Serving as an assistant coach for both the women's and men's programs, both teams reached the postseason and each had a team tournament victory over the course of 2022-23.
"I am very excited to be joining the Long Beach Women's Golf team and assist Coach Waite," said Nielsen. "I have a lot of belief in this program, and I am looking forward to growing alongside the team as we find success this season."
