Kash Powell Set to Compete at the NCAA National Outdoor Championships

The junior will race in the 800m semifinals on Wednesday evening.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Junior runner Kash Powell will compete at the NCAA National Outdoor Championships this week, racing in the 800m semifinals on Wednesday with a chance to qualify for Friday's final.

The Australia native made history at the NCAA West Regionals, posting a school record time of 1:47.47 in the quarterfinal race to secure his spot in the championships in Austin. His time was ninth fastest overall for the event.
He is just the fourth Long Beach State distance runner to qualify for the big stage and first to do it since Chris Low back in 2015. It extends a streak of LBSU having at least one representative in the outdoor champions for the 19th consecutive year, beginning back in 2004. Counting the indoor season, the Beach has had a competitor at the national championships in every year but one since Director of Track and Field Andy Sythe took over the program.
The semifinal race will be run on Wednesday, June 7 at 8:14 p.m. CT/6:14 p.m. PT at Mike Mayers Stadium in Austin, Tex. The finals will be on Friday, June 9 at 9:14 p.m. CT/7:14 p.m. PT.
