Long Beach State Men’s Golf Earns a No. 10 Seed at the Las Vegas Regional

The Beach will compete at Bear’s Best Country Club in Las Vegas May 15-17.
INDIANAPOLIS – After capturing The Big West Championship yesterday, the Long Beach State Men's Golf team punched their ticket to the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships and are a No. 10 seed in the Las Vegas Regional.
There will be six 54-hole regional tournaments that run from Monday, May 15 through Wednesday, May 17. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of three regionals, while the other three regionals will feature 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the finals, which take place Friday, May 26 through Wednesday, May 31 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.
This will be Long Beach State's fifth appearance in the NCAA Regionals (2000, 2004, 2012, 2021) in program history.
The Beach, which are ranked No. 59, have posted seven Top 5 finishes and have won two tournament titles. At the Nick Watney Invitational last September, LBSU fired an 822 for 30-under par to win their first event of the season. More recently, the Beach captured The Big West Championship with an 852 12-under par performance. Sophomore Ian Gilligan, who is ranked No. 13, led LBSU in both tournaments.
Gilligan has been Long Beach State's leader all season as the Reno, Nev., native has won four individual tournament titles, three Big West Golfer of the Month awards, and has recorded eight Top 10 finishes. He registered a career-best 61 in the first round of the John A. Burns Intercollegiate to set a new course record. Gilligan would go on to finish the tournament with a career-low 199 for 17-under par. He has finished with a 199 on two separate occasions to tie the LBSU Men's Golf program record for low 54-hole score.
The Las Vegas Regional will be hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority. The top seed in the Las Vegas Regional is No. 1 seed Arizona State. No. 2 seed Stanford, No. 3 seed Virginia, No. 4 seed Oklahoma State, and No. 5 seed Northwestern round out the Top 5, while No. 6 seed East Tennessee State, No. 7 seed Cincinnati, No. 8 seed San Francisco, and No. 9 seed UNC Greensboro claim seeds 6-9. Coming in behind the Beach are No. 11 seed Oregon State, No. 12 seed Davidson, No. 13 seed Kansas City, and No. 14 seed Lehigh.
