Four Players From Softball Named CSC Academic All-District

Sophia Fernandez, Shannon Haddad, Lilyanna Martinez and Carly Robbins all earned the honor recognizing both academic and competition success.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State softball had four players named to the 2023 Division I Academic All-District Softball teams, selected by Collegiate Sports Communicators (CSC) recognizing high levels of academic and competitive success throughout the past year and their collegiate careers.
Nominees for the honor have to maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.50 or higher, have spent more than a year at their current institution and meet performance minimums in their respective sports.
All four of Long Beach State's honorees were named All-Big West this past season in addition to their efforts in the classroom.
Lilyanna Martinez led the quartet with a perfect 4.00 GPA in her third year at Long Beach State. A Psychology major, the Second Team All-Big West selection leads Long Beach State with 19 stolen bases, and will have an opportunity to set the school record with another stolen base while taking part in the NCAA Regional this coming weekend.
A Spring 2023 graduate in Psychology, Shannon Haddad was a First Team All-Big West selection for the second time after leading Long Beach State in the circle with a 13-9 record over 139.1 innings with 107 strikeouts in the regular season.
Another pitcher in Sophia Fernandez was honored as well. A Second Team All-Big West selection and Community Health Education major, Fernandez posted a 7-1 record in Big West play while holding foes to a conference best .149 batting average.
Finally, sophomore transfer Carly Robbins was recognized as well. In her second year at Long Beach State though her first competitive season, the Health Care Administration major hit .302, third on the team. Robbins has hit a pair of home runs with 14 RBI on the year as the team's everyday third baseman, earning Honorable Mention All-Big West.
The Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot. First-, Second-, and Third-Team Academic All-America honorees will be announced on June 6.
