Isabella Alonso, Nina Sepulveda Claim Big West Weekly Awards

LONG BEACH, Calif. – After a road sweep of UC Riverside, Long Beach State earned a pair of Big West weekly awards as freshman Nina Sepulveda was named the Big West Player of the Week while senior Isabella Alonso claimed Big West Pitcher of the Week.
Sepulveda hit safely in all four games for Long Beach State last week, batting .615 while slugging .846 with a team-high five RBI last week. The freshman had multiple hits in three of four games, including a pair of hits and an RBI against North Dakota State.
Hitting .600 in a sweep on the road at UC Riverside, Sepulveda closed the series by going 3-for-3 with two runs scored against the Highlanders, wrapping up the week hitting 8-for-13 with a pair of stolen bases and three doubles.
Isabella Alonso improved to 9-3 on the season with two wins against UC Riverside. Winning both of her starts, Alonso struck out five and allowed just six hits across 9.0 innings, posting a 0.78 ERA and allowing one run in two victories.
Sepulveda was named the Player of the Week for the first time after having twice won Big West Freshman of the Week, while Alonso claims her second Big West Pitcher of the Week award of the season.
Long Beach State will have an exciting series at home, hosting Hawai'i this weekend as the Beach celebrates their alumni as well as former head coach Kim Sowder throughout the weekend at the LBSU Softball Complex.
