Softball To Play Stanford To Open Stanford Regional In NCAA Postseason

Long Beach State makes their 26th NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the Big West.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – As the champions of the Big West, Long Beach State softball earned an automatic entry in the NCAA postseason and will play (9) Stanford on Friday, May 19 as part of the Stanford Regional.
In addition to the host Cardinal, Loyola Marymount is a familiar foe making their way north, and they will face Florida as the fourth team in the regional.
Played over three days, the NCAA Regional format is double-elimination, and Long Beach State will play the hosts Stanford in their first game. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. PT, and will be televised live nationally on ESPNU.
Three games will then be played on Saturday, including two elimination games, with the regional champion to be decided on Sunday, May 21. Winners advance to the Super Regionals, and then eventually to the Women's College World Series, where Long Beach State has made five appearances in the program's storied history.
Long Beach State earned their entry into the tournament with a three-game sweep of Cal State Fullerton on the final week of the regular season, winning the Big West for the 10th time and making the team's third trip to the NCAA's in the last five tournaments. 2023 also marks the 9th trip to the NCAA postseason for the program under head coach Kim Sowder.
