Dirtbags Fall in Series Finale at UC Irvine

Despite the loss, Long Beach State still won the series taking two of three from the Anteaters.
IRVINE, Calif. – After early offense won the first two games of the series for the Dirtbags, the bats went cold in the finale as UC Irvine took the finale, 8-2, to prevent the sweep. The loss snaps an eight-game win conference win streak for Long Beach State.
For the fourth consecutive game, the 'Bags plated a run in the first as Rocco Peppi came in to score on a Connor Burns RBI single. It was Burns' third RBI of the weekend.
UC Irvine immediately responded, however, with a single run in the first, four more in the second, and three in the fifth to wrap up their scoring.
The only other Long Beach State run came in the top of the fourth on a Kyle Ashworth single, his sixth run batted in of the weekend.
On the mound, Jonathan Carlos handled the most work tossing three shutout innings, surrendering just three hits and a walk to go along with a strikeout.
Mustering up only four hits, Peppi led the way with half of them. He was a perfect 2-for-2 on Saturday with a pair of singles, both runs scored, and a walk.
The Dirtbags will be back in action on Tuesday as they head north for at midweek contest at Fresno State.
