The Beach will enter the tournament as the No. 3 seed and begin their postseason on Friday.
LONG BEACH, Calif.—After wrapping up the program's most successful season since 2013, the Long Beach State women's water polo team will now begin their postseason journey at the Big West Tournament.
The Beach (17-7, 5-2) will head to Santa Barbara for the opening round of the tournament on Friday. Entering the tournament as the (3) seed, Long Beach State will face off against the hosts and (6) seed UC Santa Barbara at 3 p.m.
A phenomenal debut season for Elisa Portillo saw her lead the Long Beach State in scoring with 52 goals, while Rachael Kowalchick followed closely behind with 47 goals. Sophomore Martina Cardona also had an impressive start to her Long Beach State career scoring 38 goals and leading the team in assists with 22. On the defensive side of the game, Chelsea Oliver was solid in goal as she finished with 142 saves and a .449 save percentage, both of which were good for top 10 in the Big West.
Friday's contest will be the second matchup between the two teams this season, with Long Beach State coming out on top with a 12-6 win a few weeks ago. The Beach will look to stay hot against the Gauchos as they have now won the last four games with their last loss coming in the 2020 season.
Live streaming of the games will be available on ESPN+ and live stats will be provided on theFOSH.net. For more information about the weekend, you can check out the tournament page here, or check back at longbeachstate.com for updates.
