Track and Field Wraps Up First Day of Beach Invitational

Rori Denness-Lamont headlined the group in women’s Javelin.

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Long Beach State continued their busy week at the Jack Rose Track with the prestigious Beach Invitational officially starting on Friday morning. They also had a trio of distance runners competing at the Bryan Clay Invitational in Azusa as well.

Day One Results

This year marks the 27th annual Beach Invitational and is one of the biggest in the meet's history with 134 schools/clubs competing totaling 1,719 athletes. Among those also includes some of the best international athletes featuring Olympic and World Champions.

Most notable of the day was Rori Denness-Lamont in women's Javelin. Competing in her first official collegiate meet, she posted a throw of 45.17m (148-2) on her third attempt for a new PR. It also goes as the sixth furthest throw in program history and gave her a fifth place finish in the event.

Also in throws was the throw of a lifetime for Giszelle Hrehor. The freshman shattered her PR by over 30 feet with a mark of 50.57m (165-11). She finished first of the Beach trio and 39th overall.

Hannah Butler led a trio of women's long jumpers with a new personal best jump of 5.48m (17-11.75) for a fifth place finish. Allison Bryan also posted a PR in the event, with a mark of 5.25m (17-2.75) to come out eleventh.

Similarly, the men's long jumpers had a great showing led by DeQuan Guillebeau and Miguel Orozco. Guillebeau posted a new lifetime best of 7.05m (23-1.75) for a third place finish, followed by Orozco's 7.00m (22-11.75) in fourth.

Fellow jumper Zachery Glick was the runner-up in the men's High Jump. Clearing the bar at 1.91m (6-3.25), he was just shy of his personal best. Also with a second place finish was Nathan Garibay in the men's Pole Vault. The junior posted a new PR of 4.87m (15-11.75) in his runner-up effort.

On the track, Antonio Carbajal had a nice showing in the men's 10,000m race. With a time of 30:57.84, the senior crossed the line in third place.

At the Bryan Clay Invitational, Kash Powell nearly had a historic run in the 800m. Posting a time of 1:47.86, he was just 0.29 seconds shy of his lifetime best and 0.34 seconds shy of the school record.
