Angelina Kim Atop Leaderboard After Two Rounds At Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational

Kim holds a five-stroke lead after the first of two days at Hoakalei Country Club in Hawaii.
EWA BEACH, Hawaii – Junior Angelina Kim leads the 69-golfer field at the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational, shooting two rounds under par and leading the tournament by five strokes with one round remaining after the first day from Hoakalei Country Club.
Kim hit three birdies in her opening round on the way to a one-under par 71, and then utilized an eagle on the par five ninth to lift her way to a second-round 70. Those two rounds were two of three rounds in the field on the day that were under par.
Long Beach State as a team closed the day in second place among the 11 competing teams, one stroke behind the leaders, UNC Wilmington. The Beach had three golfers in the Top 10 after the first 36 holes.
Junior Hannah Ko shot 74 in the first round and after a tough first eight holes, birdied nine and closed the second round with nine straight pars for a 76, 6-over par after two rounds with a 150, tied for 8th overall. Sharing that score was freshman Janae Leovao, who fired back-to-back rounds of 75 to match Ko in the Top 10.
Jasmine Leovao was two strokes back of her sister, also shooting 75 in the second round after a first round 77, while Kristina Ponomareva was the team's drop score, still in the top half of the field overall in a tie for 36th overall at +12.
UNC Wilmington has a one-stoke lead in the team competition heading into the final day in front of Long Beach State, who are two strokes in front of Sacramento State, setting up an exciting three-way finish on Tuesday.
