The Beach lost an insanely close contest to No. 10 Stanford and bounced back to sweep Vanguard.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State competed in a rematch with No.10 Stanford to start the day but fell short 3-2 in a well-fought match. However, the Beach bounced back against Vanguard sweeping them 5-0 at Rosie's Dog Beach Friday afternoon.

It was a back-and-forth match in all respective flights against the Cardinal. Long Beach State took the early 2-0 lead, but Stanford rallied back to even the score at 2-2. After yesterday's matches extended to three-sets on four out of the five flights, today's flights only consisted of one which resulted in being the deciding match.
In flight three, Megan Widener and Natalie Glenn competed in a gritty three-set battle. Both sides battled back-and-forth in the third set, but Emma Morris and Kate Reilly got the best of Widener and Glenn, 18-21, 28-26, 15-12. The Cardinals earned their third and final point winning the contest in a tight 3-2 match.

After dropping the close match against Stanford, the Beach rebounded and took care of business by sweeping Vanguard. In program history, the Beach have dominated the Lions. Today's match garnered their fourth victory over them, and they remain undefeated.
Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah captured the first point in straight sets in flight two, followed by Maggie Walters and Christine Deroos in the fourth flight.
Clinching the Beach's victory in flight five, Kate Stoughton and Savannah Lyons bested their Vanguard opponent, 21-9, 21-19 followed by a Sydney Stevens and Julia Westby win in the first flight.
Picking up LBSU's final point, Widener and Glenn posted a 21-12, 21-19 win over Maddi Nash and and Emilee Hall ending the match in favor of the Beach, 5-0.

The twelfth-ranked Beach will be back at the LBSU Sand Courts on Thursday, April 6 with matches against Pepperdine and Cal State LA.
