Beach Tennis Falls 4-3 at San Francisco

LBSU battled to the very end after not competing the last two days due to inclement weather.
SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – After back-to-back days of inclement weather canceling Long Beach State's dual matches up north, LBSU finished their road trip at San Francisco, falling in a close 4-3 dual match at the Olympic Club.
Beginning in doubles action, Sheena Masuda and Justine Dondonay fell to Maria Martinez Vaquero and Simran Chhabra in a 6-1 outing on court one. On court two, Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook displayed a masterclass as the tandem continued their hot streak. Ramstedt and Cook dominated in a 6-1 win over Chiho Mushika and Caragh Courtney. The chemistry between the duo has earned them a 12-4 doubles record for the dual season and a current five-game match winning streak. However, in a tight match against Arianna Capogrosso and Rita Colyer, Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak fell short 7-6 to give the Beach the doubles point.
After Long Beach State (6-8, 2-2 Big West) dropped the doubles point, San Francisco (10-5, 2-1 West Coast) continued their momentum winning on courts one through three in singles action.
Sarah Medik fell to USF's Maria Martinez Vaquero in a tough 6-2, 6-0 loss. The Dons earned their second point of the day on court one.
To bring them back to a 2-1 defecit, Dondonay garnered a dominant 6-2, 6-1 outing by defeating USF's Azaria Hayes on court six giving Long Beach State their first point of the day.
Chhabra earned USF's third point on court three by defeating Cook, 6-4, 6-3.
In a grueling three-set match on court two, both sides fought extremely hard, but Mushika came out on top 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 over Ramstedt to clinch the Dons tenth victory of the year.
With both sides electing to play out the dual match, LBSU ended their afternoon winning on courts four through five.
After splitting the first two sets, 2-6, 6-1, Tranberg lead the way 3-1 in the third set until Capogrosso could not resume action giving the Beach their second point of the day via retirement on court four.
Earning the Beach's final point of the day and ending the dual match 4-3 in favor of the Dons, Masuda continued her winning ways in singles action. In a competitive three-set match against Hana Gamracy, Masuda picked up a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win on court five to collect her sixth singles victory in a row and her 15th overall victory of the year.
The Beach will return next week on Friday, April 7 as they head into back-to-back conference matches against rival Cal State Fullerton at Titan Tennis Courts and on Saturday, April 8 against UC Santa Barbara at the Rhodes Tennis Center.
