
Another Win For Women’s Tennis As LBSU Drops St. Thomas

A brief delay caused no problems for the Beach in a 6-1 win.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Delayed for an hour due to rain conditions, Long Beach State Women's Tennis came out and dominated St. Thomas with a 6-1 victory Wednesday afternoon at Rhodes Tennis Center.
To start doubles action, Mathilde Tranberg and Hana Becirovic Novak earned 6-2 win over Monterey Knewtson and Jannah ElNemr on court three. Following court three, Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook collected a 6-2 victory as well against Olivia Paradise and Naisha Srivastav. Ramstedt and Cook's victory clinched the doubles point while also improving their doubles record to 11-4 for the dual season. The tandem is on a hot streak and currently riding a four-match winning streak.
After taking the doubles point, Long Beach State (6-7, 2-2 Big West) continued their dominant performance against St. Thomas (1-10, 0-0 Summit League) on courts two through six.
Rhona Cook earned the second point quickly for Long Beach State. After a 6-2 win for Cook in the first set, Olivia Paradise could not continue giving the Beach an early singles win via retirement.
Justine Dondonay earned LBSU's third point on court six by defeating Monterey Knewtson in a quick 6-0, 6-1 outing while giving the Beach an advantageous 3-0 lead.
Clinching the Beach's victory, Ramstedt picked up a commanding win on court two, 6-0, 6-1 against Jannah ElNemr.
With the teams electing to play out the match, Masuda came out on top 6-4, 6-2 over Naisha Srivastav on court five to grab a fifth point for Long Beach State. Masuda is currently riding a five-match winning streak and leads her team with a 14-9 singles record.
Tranberg picked up the final victory of the day for Long Beach State, winning 6-4, 6-2 against Shrichandrakala Tentu. To end the day, Sarah Medik competed in a gritty three-set match. Both sides fought tremendously hard in the third set, but Marthe Degeorges got the best of Medik on court one, 6-2, 1-6, 11-9. Degeorges earned St. Thomas its first point, but Long Beach State won the dual match, 6-1.
With the win, Long Beach State conludes their seven game homestand and face UC Davis on the road Tuesday March 28 at 11 a.m.
