Long Beach State beat the Utes in their first dual before besting No. 16 Stetson for the second time.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Beach Volleyball picked up two more wins on Saturday to wrap up a perfect four-win weekend. The No. 13 ranked Beach topped Utah before beating No. 16 Stetson a second time in two days.
In the first match, the top three flights made quick work of the Utes with Christine Deroo/Mari Molina, Sydney Stevens/Julia Westby, and Malia Gementera/Taylor Hagenah all claimed the top three flights. Deroos and Molina posted the most lopsided score with 21-9 and 21-12 set wins while Gementera and Hagenah secured the dual point.
Haley Carrington/Holly Jackson wrapped up the dual with a win in flight number five, besting their Utah opponent, 21-11 and 21-15.
The final matchup of the weekend was their second with No. 16 Stetson. The freshman duo of Gementera and Hagenah stayed red hot with another clean two-set win in the third flight for the first point. After Stetson evened the score at one apiece, Natalie Glenn and Maggie Walters put the Beach back in front with a 21-13, 21-11 victory in five's.
After dropping the first set, Emily Mattoon and Megan Widener rallied back to force a third set. With a comfortable gap, they came out on top 15-11 to secure the fourth flight point and the dual victory for the Beach.
Despite a venue change the day before, Long Beach State goes a perfect 4-0 on their first weekend of duals in Long Beach and has now won five straight. They will take that win streak into a midweek tri-dual at home, hosting Colorado Mesa and Boise State.
