The Beach has now won seven straight duals.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Another venue change caused by the weather did not stop No. 12 ranked Long Beach State from winning both their matches on Tuesday afternoon. The Beach swept both Colorado Mesa and Boise State, 5-0, to extend their winning streak to seven consecutive matches.
Riding a five-match win streak, the Beach was set to face Colorado Mesa in their first dual of the day. Making clean work of the Mavericks, LBSU finished a perfect 5-0 sweep with every flight winning in straight sets. Emily Mattoon and Megan Widener had the most dominant performance with 21-10 and 21-9 wins to earn the dual securing point.
Malia Gementera and Taylor Hagenah matched Mattoon and Widener with 21-10 and 21-9 set victories fresh off their Big West Pair of the Week honor yesterday morning.
In their second dual of the day, Long Beach State matched up with a red hot Boise State team, who entered the dual with a 14-4 overall record. The Beach pulled off another sweep, defeating the Broncos, 5-0. Seeing their first action in the third flight, Christine Deroos and Mari Molina secured the dual with set scores of 21-19 and 21-13.
Mattoon had a new partner against the Broncos as her and freshman Kate Stoughton competed in the fifth flight. Together, they posted the most lopsided score of the day beating their Boise State opponents, 21-9 and 21-11, for the Beach's first point of the sweep.
The Beach dropped just one set on the day on their way to a seven-match win streak. They will look to keep it rolling this weekend at The Big West Challenge in San Luis Obispo this weekend.
