Long Beach State was in play for three wins prior to the suspension of the match.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Postponed by one day after the Tuesday rains, Long Beach State and Princeton hit the Rhodes Tennis Center Wednesday and the ranked Tigers defeated the Beach 4-0.
No. 39 Princeton (8-4) took the doubles point to start the day. Both the first and third flights got off to a strong start, up 3-0. Sheena Masuda and Justine Dondonay rebounded with a break of their own at the top flight, as did Sarah Medik and Mathilde Tranberg at the threes, but the Tigers held on to take the point.
Sarah Medik faced a tough test against No. 2 Daria Frayman in the top flight, and Princeton's star earned the first singles point with a 6-0, 6-1 win.
The remainder of the matches were competitive on the day as Long Beach State (4-7) pushed the Tigers. Peppi Ramstedt, Rhona Cook and Sheena Masuda each grabbed first set wins over their Princeton opponents, while the Tigers took a third point with a 7-5, 6-1 win in the third flight by Nega Velaga over Mathilde Tranberg.
Masuda, after a 7-5 win in the first set, had reached match point in the sixth flight but a tiebreaker in the second set between Maia Sung and Justine Dondanay went Sung's way to conclude Wednesday's action with a 4-0 win for Princeton.
The Princeton match marks the first of three in a busy weekend for Long Beach State. The Beach looks pick up a big win in Big West action Thursday hosting Hawai'i at 2 p.m. before closing the weekend with another non-conference matchup against Santa Clara on Saturday at 11 a.m.
