No. 7 Long Beach State Set To Open Conference Play Against UC San Diego

Long Beach State will takes on No. 16 UC San Diego at 7 p.m. on Friday.
LONG BEACH, Calif.— The Beach will open Big West Conference play this week as they take on No. 16 UC San Diego at 7 p.m. on Friday.
No. 7 Long Beach State (10-4) are off to their best start to a season since 2013. Rachael Kowalchick leads the Beach in scoring with 32 goals, but is followed closely by sophomore Martina Cardona with 26, and freshman Elisa Portillo with 24. Defensively for the Beach, Chelsea Oliver has 73 saves on the season and Jamie Oberman leads the team with nine steals.
No. 16 UC San Diego (5-11) enters Friday after playing at the Barbara Kalbus Invite where they went 1-3. They will look to their leading scorer Kendall Thomas to add to her 25 goals this season.

On Sunday, Long Beach State concluded play at the Barbara Kalbus Invite with an impressive 15-10 victory over No. 7 Arizona State. Elisa Portillo scored six goals while Martina Cardona added four of her own, and Chelsea Oliver came up with 15 huge saves to lead the way for the Beach.
