Beach Tennis Set for Road Match Against UC San Diego

WHAT'S COMING UP FOR LBSU WOMEN'S TENNIS  
Long Beach State (1-0, 1-0 Big West) vs. UC San Diego (3-3, 0-0 Big West)

WHAT'S COMING UP: 
Long Beach State travels to UC San Diego for the Beach's second dual match of the season. Action begins at 12 p.m., at the Northview Tennis Courts in La Jolla, Calif. Competition will begin with doubles followed by singles action.  

ABOUT UCSD:
The Tritons are 3-3 after defeating Pomona-Pitzer, 7-2, yesterday afternoon. They will host LBSU for their first Big West conference match of the season. Katelyn Vu leads her team with a 3-2 overall record in both singles and doubles competition. 

UC San Diego leads the all-time series against the Beach 21-11. However, last season the Tritons fell short against LBSU by a score of 7-0 at Rhodes Tennis Center.  

LAST TIME OUT:
LBSU earned its first Big West victory against UC Riverside with a 4-0 sweep in the Beach's season opener at Rhodes Tennis Center last Wednesday.  

Sheena Masuda, Justine Dondonay, Rhona Cook, and Peppi Ramstedt earned LBSU's first point of the day during doubles action. The duo of Masuda and Dondonay defeated Maya Youssef and Brionna Nguyen with a dominant score, 6-1. The second duo of Cook and Ramstedt solidified the Beach's first point by defeating Niki Shahbazi and Sofia Lazzaroni in a 6-3 match.   

In singles action, both Ramstedt and Masuda contributed to capturing two out of the four points for their team. Masuda opened singles play with a 6-3, 6-2 victory against Sydney Tran. Ramstedt handed Niki Shahbazi a 6-1, 6-2 defeat. To secure LBSU's victory, Sarah Medik captured the Beach's final point by defeating Maya Youssef by a score of 6-3, 6-0.  

Including the fall season, Peppi Ramstedt leads her team with an overall doubles record of 11-3 while Hana Becirovic Novak leads LBSU with an overall singles record of 9-5.  

TENNIS TRADITION: 
The traditional player cheer pre-match and each time the team wins a match point is "Here We Go Beach" followed by all supporters in attendance then cheering the same "Here We Go Beach!"
