De Kleer Scores Game Winner as No. 7 Long Beach State Wins Thriller Against No. 8 Fresno State

The Beach finished in fifth place at the Triton Invite
LA JOLLA, Calif.-- The final day of the Triton Invite saw a resilient No. 7 Long Beach State take down No. 8 Long Beach State to finish in fifth place in the tournament.
Defense was the story early in the game with the teams finishing the first quarter tied at zero. Martina Cardona continued her strong tournament and found the back of the cage to get things started for the Beach in the second quarter. Rachael Kowalchick also scored, but the Beach found themselves down 3-2 at halftime.
The third quarter was again a tough battle, with both teams trading goals. Lara Luka, Elisa Portillo, and Kowalchick all scored, and the quarter ended with both teams even at 5-5.
Fourth quarter play has been a highlight of the tournament for Long Beach State, and Sunday's game was no different. After falling behind by a goal, Portillo came through with two big goals to give the Beach the lead. Indiana would tie the game, but Anne de Kleer scored the winner with just :44 remaining on the clock. The junior continued her stellar start to the season, as she inches her way closer to 100 career goals.
Long Beach State finished the Triton Invite with a 3-1 record, good for fifth place in the tournament. They are now 6-2 on the season.
The Beach will be back in action on Saturday, February 11 at noon against Loyola Marymount.
