Long Beach State Leads the Way After Round One at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate

Freshman Jack Cantlay is pacing Long Beach State with a four-under par as he sits in a tie for third place heading into the second round

HENDERSON, Nev. – Long Beach State started out strong at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate as the Beach are currently in possession of first place, leading Little Rock and Michigan by one stroke, with a score of 10-under par.

The Beach sent six players to the green, with Steven Deutsch competing as an individual. Of the half dozen LBSU players, five are in the top 25 after the first round.

Freshman Jack Cantlay is leading the way for the Beach after shooting 4-under par for a third-place tie. In the first round, Cantlay fired a 68 as he sunk four birdies on the day, including back-to-back birdies on holes 11 and 12.

Senior Isaac Rodea is right behind Cantlay, with a 3-under par showing. He is tied for fifth place after recording five birdies on the first day. He had two back-to-back birdies on holes 4 and 5, then again on 15 and 16.

Sophomore Ian Gilligan set the tone early for the Beach in Henderson when he scored an eagle on the first hole. Gilligan is tied for 11th place with a 2-under par. Also tied for 11th place is Deutsch who finished the first round with five birdies.

Freshman Jaden Huggins came out with a strong round one, shooting five birdies. He finished the day with a score of 1-under par and is tied for 22nd.

Freshman Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa is tied for 83rd after the first round. He ended the day with a score of 80 for 8-over with three birdies so far.

The Beach look to build on their lead in the second round on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8:00 a.m. Live stats are available via GolfStat.com.
