LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Long Beach State Men's Golf team heads to Henderson, Nev., to compete in the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate hosted by Louisiana. The Tournament begins on Monday, Feb. 27 and will run through Wednesday, March 1.
The Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate will be played over three days at the Reflection Bay Golf Club. In addition to Long Beach State, the tournament field also includes Central Arkansas, Middle Tennessee State, New Mexico State, Rocky Mountain College, South Florida, Stetson, UAB, and Winthrop.
Long Beach State will send its starting squad of Ian Gilligan, Isaac Rodea, Jaden Huggins, Krishnav Nikhil Chopraa, and Jack Cantlay, along with Steven Deutsch who will compete as an individual, to the green.
Gilligan, a sophomore from Reno, Nev., has been on a roll. He is currently ranked fifth by GolfStat after earing a Top 3 finish last week at the John Burns Intercollegiate where he set a Round 1 course record and a single-round personal-best score of 61 for 11-under par. He went on to fire a 199 for 17-under par over three rounds to lead the Beach.
Rodea will be back in the starting five this week after a solid showing at the John Burns Intercollegiate in which he shot 73-72-71 for a 216 as he was even for par in a tournament in which he battled the elements. Due to weather, the three-day tournament saw all three rounds being played over just two days.
Despite the inclement weather, the Beach golfers all performed well as Chopraa, Huggins, and Cantlay all finished 1-over par. The trio look to improve on their showings at the John Burns Invitational as they head into the week in Vegas.
Deutsch is set to make his spring debut on Monday at the Lake Las Vegas Intercollegiate after seeing action in two fall tournaments.
