No. 7 Long Beach State Falls to Stanford and Hawai’i at Barbara Kalbus Invite

Long Beach State will finish play at the Barbara Kalbus Invite on Sunday.
IRVINE, Calif.-- Long Beach State fell to two top five opponents at the Barbara Kalbus Invite, as they couldn't overcome the quick starts by Stanford or Hawai'i.
The Beach scored first against Hawai'i, as Gabriella Matafora-Adams continued her strong run of form and put Long Beach State up 1-0 early in the first quarter against No. 1 Stanford. Martina Cardona also added a goal, but the Beach would finish the first quarter trailing 7-2.
Matafora-Adams and Emma Seehafer would add two more goals for Long Beach State in the second quarter, but once again were outscored by Stanford and headed into halftime trailing 10-4.
Jamie Oberman, Katie Dill, and Sierra May would also find the back of the cage in the game, but the Beach would ultimately fall to Stanford by a score of 19-7.
The second game against Hawai'i saw the Rainbow Wahine jump out to an early 3-0 lead, before Jamie Oberman pulled a goal back in the second quarter. Oberman would finish the game with three goals, while Martina Cardona would add two. Elisa Portillo and Matafora-Adams would also score in the 15-7 loss to Hawai'i.
The two losses put Long Beach State at 9-4 on the season. They will conclude play at the Barbara Kalbus Invite on Sunday at 9 a.m. in the seventh-place game.
