Beach Tennis Gets Comeback Victory Over Dartmouth, 4-3

LBSU collected their third win of the season in a thrilling dual match at Alexis Boss Tennis Center.

Hanover, N.H. - Long Beach State Women's Tennis collected their third win of the season defeating Dartmouth in a comeback victory, 4-3. In a collective effort, the Beach rallied back to garner four singles victories that included two comeback victories from Peppi Ramstedt and Doga Akyurek.

"I'm very proud of the team today and our fight in singles," said LBSU Head Coach Jenny Hilt-Costello. "We had to come from behind in two matches to clinch the win. Great fight by Doga and Peppi. It was a strong road win for us!"

The Beach (3-3) had a rough start in doubles action to begin the day. Duo Sarah Medik and Hana Becirovic Novak lost to Emily Zhou and Lexi Dewire in a 6-4 contest. To clinch the doubles point for Dartmouth (3-5), Brooke Hess and Katie Weber won a 7-5 match against Peppi Ramstedt and Rhona Cook.

After dropping the doubles point in a tough road match at Alexis Boss Tennis Center, the Beach rallied in singles action for the comeback win. LBSU picked up wins in flights six and three to take a 2-1 lead over Dartmouth. The Beach had to fight back once more after the Big Green evened the score after winning on court five. LBSU displayed its resiliency by fighting back and earning wins on courts four and two to earn the hard-fought victory.

On court six, Becirovic Novak defeated Brooke Hess by a score of 6-4, 6-2 to tie the dual match at 1-1.

To break the tie, Mathilde Tranberg got the best of Katie Weber on court three in a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

It was a back-and-forth match as the Big Green evened the score again at 2-2 after Emily Zhou won her flight against Rhona Cook on court five, 7-5, 6-1.

After dropping their first set, both Doga Akyurek and Peppi Ramstedt won their respective singles matches in three sets. On court four, Ujvala Jupalli won the first set, 6-4, but Akyurek stormed back to win the next two sets, 6-1, 6-3 giving the Beach a 3-2 lead. To clinch the Beach's final point, Peppi Ramstedt garnered a 4-6, 6-0, 7-5 comeback victory over Ashley Hess on court two.

To wrap up the day, Medik fell short against Chidimma Okpara by a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-7. However, the Beach beat Dartmouth in a thrilling road dual match.

The Beach will be back home on Saturday, March 4 at 11 a.m. at Rhodes Tennis Center when they take on Cal Poly in Big West action.
