The renamed tournament has moved locations and will be hosted starting February 27th at Mission Viejo Country Club.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State begins the spring season in earnest by once again hosting their home tournament, reiterated this year as The Beach Invitational beginning on Monday, February 27.
In addition to a new name, Long Beach State's home tournament will feature a new home as well as Mission Viejo Country Club will play host to the tournament for the first time. Golf fans can continue to expect the same high level of competition however, as a 15-team field takes part in this year's edition.
UCLA, ranked No. 20 in first spring WGCA poll will return to the field, while Big West conference rivals UC Irvine and Cal State Fullerton join the Beach in taking on the rest of the competitors which include Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Murray State, New Mexico State, Northern Illinois, Oral Roberts, Sam Houston State, Santa Clara, and Wofford.
For Long Beach State, eight golfers part in the competition, with five players representing the team while three will compete as individuals.
True freshman Janae Leovao will lead off the group at the top of the lineup. Leovao was the team's top scorer in three of Long Beach State's four fall tournaments, including a podium finish at The Clash at Boulder Creek.
Veteran Hannah Ko will play second, a consistent presence exemplified by her four No. 2 finishes in fall competition. Jasmine Leovao will take the third spot, while Angelina Kim will play fourth after capturing the individual championship in Long Beach State's most recent competition, a tri-dual with CSUN and CSU Bakersfield back at the start of the month.
Freshman Madison Le will round out the competition lineup for LBSU, while Kristina Ponomareva, Vanessa Richani and Isabella Ranches will all compete as individuals.
Previously under the moniker of The Gold Rush, The Beach Invitational in 2023 is the 11th edition of the home tournament for Long Beach State Women's Golf. Long Beach State is the two-time champion of the event and has used the tournament as a springboard to success in the second half of the season.
