Four Individuals Win Event Titles on Day One of MPSF Championships

Both the men’s and women’s teams sit in first place in the team standings.

SPOKANE, Wash. – Long Beach State track and field had four individuals crowned as event champions on day one of the MPSF Championships. Overall, both the men's and women's teams currently sit atop the team standings.

Day One Results
 
The women's Long Jump group was arguably the most impressive showing of the night not only sweeping the entire podium, but taking the entire top five finishers. Kaitlyn Williams led the way launching herself 5.79m (19') to take home the title. Tayah DeSousa and Rahni Turner both went 5.64m for second and third followed by Hailey Fune (5.57m) in fourth with KiiKii Brown (5.54m) rounding out the top five.
 
Fune also showed out in the women's Pentathlon with 3,678 total points, the second most in program history. She started the day with back-to-back wins in the 60m and the High Jump and then closed her day in the Pentathlon with a second place finish in Long Jump.
 
On the men's side, Sebastian Coleman brought home the Weight Throw title with a new lifetime-best. Throwing the 35-pound weight 19.90m (62' 7.75") for a first place finish and improving on his tenth ranked mark in program history.
 
Kyle Jankans also took home a title finishing first in the men's High Jump. Clearing a lifetime-best of 2.18m (7' 1.75"), he beat the next closest jumper by over seven inches. The mark also sits as the fourth highest mark in program history.
 
The women's distance medley had an incredible race with a new school record. The quartet of Jaxin Woodward, Hailey Danskin, Anitha Graves, and Ryley Fick posted a time of 11:43.84 beating last year's record setting performance by almost two seconds. They finished fifth for the event.

The Beach also had six sprinters qualify for their event finals taking place tomorrow. Rahni Turner (8.46), Hailey Fune (8.49), and Tayah DeSousa (8.63) will race in the 60m Hurdles on day two along with Kaitlyn Williams (7.42) in the 60m Dash for the women's team. On the men's side, Justice Fair (8.33) will run in the 60m Hurdles final and Tristyn Flores (6.84) will run in the 60m Dash final.

Along with his final, Fair along with Preston Sladek will wrap up their competition in the men's Heptathlon.
 
In the team standings, the women's team owns a 30-point lead with 90.50 total points while the men sit atop the list with 74 points.
 
The Beach will look to hold that lead for their first ever indoor championship for either the men's and women's teams. Action resumes at The Podium at 10 a.m.
