Women’s Volleyball Legend Misty May-Treanor To Receive NCAA Silver Anniversary Award

The 1998 National Player of the Year is being honored for her tremendous accomplishments 25 years following her national championship season at Long Beach State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State superstar and four-time Olympian Misty May-Treanor is one of six individuals who will be honored at the upcoming NCAA Convention, recognizing outstanding collegiate and professional achievements.
The Silver Anniversary Award recipients are recognized on the 25th anniversary of the conclusion of their college athletics careers. The awardees were nominated by administrators at their undergraduate school and are selected by a panel of former student-athletes and representatives from NCAA member schools and conferences.
A three-time All-American and named the Big West Player of the Year three times during her career as a setter at Long Beach State, Misty's collegiate career was capped by an incredible senior season where she led Long Beach State to the first ever undefeated season in NCAA women's volleyball history, leading LBSU to a 36-0 record and the program's third NCAA national championship under Brian Gimmillaro.
Taking her talents outside, May-Treanor then became one of the most successful beach volleyball players in history. A three-time Gold Medalist and a four-time Olympian, she is a member of both the United State Olympic Hall of Fame and the International Volleyball Hall of Fame, and is active as a philanthropist across multiple foundations.
In addition to May-Treanor, the other five honorees are Nicole Aunapu Mann, Jerry Azumah, Shannon Boxx, John Cena, and Cindy Parlow Cone. The awardees will be celebrated Wednesday, Jan. 10, at the NCAA Convention Welcome and Awards Presentation in Phoenix.
