Women’s Golf Begins Spring Competition With Tri-Match With Conference Rivals

The Beach will play the one-day competition with CSUN, CSU Bakersfield.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – The young Long Beach State Women's Golf team begins the spring portion of their season this week, getting an early warmup against two conference rivals in CSUN and CSU Bakersfield with a tri-match hosted by the Matadors.
 
                Consisting of one round of stroke play, the team competition will use the standard five count four format, with the fifth-place score servings as a tiebreaker. The three teams will play the round at Soule Park Golf Course with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. this Wednesday, February 1.
 
                The Beach will be send a full contingent to the competition, with five golfers representing the team as well as three individuals with eight threesomes teeing off from Ojai, Calif., one from each school.
 
                Leading the lineup for Long Beach State are the twin freshmen standouts, Jasmine and Janae Leovao. Jasmine will play at No. 1 for the Beach. Her top finish came in the fall came at the Golf Iconic Classic, where she recorded a first round 67 on the way to a 4-under par podium finish, taking third in the 83-competitor field.
 
                Her sister Janae will play second for the Beach, after leading the team in three tournaments this fall. Janae had a low round of 67 at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic and also had a Top 3 individual finish at The Clash at Boulder Creek, charging up the leaderboard with back-to-back scores of 78 to finish -6 in a tie for third.
 
                Junior Angelina Kim will play third for Long Beach State, followed by Vanessa Richani in the fourth spot. Rounding out the team lineup will be veteran Hannah Ko, one of the most consistent golfers for the Beach in the fall, placing second on the team in all four tournaments.
 
                The Tri-Match will give three other golfers an early opportunity to impress. Freshman Madison Le placed third on the team in her first tournament, the Couer D'Alene Collegiate and will lead the individuals. True freshman Isabella Ranches will make her Long Beach State Individual debut in Ojai, and Kristina Ponomareva will round out those in action for the Beach on Wednesday.
 
                After Wednesday, Long Beach State will have a few more weeks of preparation before the spring campaign really heats up with the team's home tournament, The Beach Invitational which will be held on February 27 and 28 from Mission Viejo, Calif.
