Long Beach State Splits Contests at The Joust

The Beach drops contest to #2 USC and defeats Cal Baptist.
RIVERSIDE, Calif.—Long Beach State concluded action at The Joust by splitting its contests against #2 USC and host Cal Baptist.
In the first game of the day, the Beach fell to #2 USC by a score of 17-7. Junior Anne de Kleer led the way for Long Beach State with 3 goals and an assist. Rachael Kowalchick and Mariah Walker found the back of the cage with Jamie Oberman and Elisa Portillo also scoring their first goals of the season.
Long Beach State bounced back in the second game to beat Cal Baptist 16-8. Sophomore Martina Cardona had the hot hand scoring five goals and senior Gabriella Matafora-Adams followed with four goals and an assist. Rachael Kowalchick also added three more goals to her impressive start to the season.
The Beach will be back in action on Friday, February 3 when they head to San Diego for the Triton Invitational. Their first game will be against Loyola Marymount at 9:20 a.m.
