Silano’s Bicycle Goal in 88th Minute Highlights Comeback Against San Diego

LONG BEACH, Calif. – Lena Silano played heroics on Sunday night with an incredible bicycle goal for the equalizing goal in the 88th minute. The senior netted both Long Beach State goals in the 2-2 draw with the University of San Diego.
With time winding down, Elysia Laramie held possession in the far corner. The redshirt junior put work in and ultimately megged the Torero defender to create space before sending in a perfect cross into the box. Silano finished it off with an unbelievable bicycle kick over the keeper and into the back of the net for the equalizing goal with just two minutes to play.
Going back to earlier in the match, the Aguora Hills native got the scoring started in the 25th minute. With the offense in transition, she connected with Cherrie Cox around midfield where the freshman dribbled nearly the length of the field before dishing it back to Silano for the left-footed finish.
Silano now owns a Big West leading five goals this season and owns 16 for her career after her first multi-goal effort of the year.
The Beach held that 1-0 lead going into the half with a two-to-one shot on goal advantage. Unfortunately, coming out of the break the Toreros evened the score in the 54th minute.
In the 66th minute, a San Diego pass into the box led to a high bouncing header past Houston-Shepherd in goal. Maddy Perez positioned herself perfectly to slide in behind and make a tremendous goal line save to keep the game tied at 1-1.
San Diego would respond quickly though and take a 2-1 lead in the 68th minute.
From there, the teams battled back-and-forth ultimately setting up the Laramie-Silano connection in the final minutes to give Long Beach State the 2-2 draw.
LBSU will be back in action with their first road trip next week as they head Harvard for a Thursday night matchup against the Crimson. The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
