Janae Leovao continues to impress, finishing her second tournament with a 5-under par 67.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Long Beach State closed out the Ptarmigan Ram Classic with the team's best round of the season to climb to sixth place in Fort Collins, Colo., one-over par as a team for the round.
In the sixth round of her collegiate career, freshman Janae Leovao flirted with the Long Beach State record for the lowest round in a spectacular day. Leovao birdied six holes before a bogey in her next-to-last hole, ultimately finishing the day 5-under par.
That 67 was the second-lowest round of the day among the 63-golfer field, and was two strokes behind Kay Hoey's 2008 school record.
Hannah Ko also finished the day under par, closing out the tournament with a one-under par 71. Both Ko and Leovao finished in the Top 20, as Leovao climbed to a tie for 14th while Ko was two strokes back in a tie for 17th.
Sophomore Kristina Ponomareva was Long Beach State leader through two rounds, and finished Tuesday with a 75, once stroke behind Ko for third place on the team in a tie for 22nd overall. Angelina Kim was Long Beach State's other scoring total on the day with a 76, and the junior close the tournament in a tie for 37th overall.
Long Beach State will remain busy for the start of the season, playing a third tournament in as many weeks starting next Monday. The Beach will participate at the Aggie Invitational, playing one round each day from October 3 through October 5 at the New Mexico State Golf Course in Las Cruces, N.M.
