Sophomore Kristina Ponomareva’s Solid Start Highlights First Day From Fort Collins

Long Beach State sits in seventh place after two rounds at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Kristina Ponomareva started Monday with a birdie and an eagle in back-to-back holes to kick start a strong season debut for the sophomore, who ended the day at even par in a tie for 17th overall after two rounds at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic.
Ponomareva joined the lineup for the first time this week in Fort Collins, and finished a wild opening round with a 73. Making five birdies in her second round, she shot a one-under par 71 in the second round to lead the Beach contingent on the day.
Junior Hannah Ko fired a two-under par 70 in the first round in the low score of the day, but slipped to 26th overall in the individual leaderboard with a second round 77. Long Beach State's leader last weekend, freshman Jane Leovao had a strong first round with a one-under par 71, but scored 78 in the second round for the non-counting team score of the round for LBSU.
Also making her season debut Monday was junior Angelina Kim, who ended up sharing 33rd place at the tournament after the first two rounds with Leovao and three other golfers at +5 after shooting a 74 in the first round followed by a 75 in the second. Madison Le also had an eagle Monday on the Par 5 16th, helping her improve her second round score to 74 after an opening round 76.
Nevada holds the lead in the team competition after two rounds at the tournament, followed by the hosts from Colorado State.
