The Beach’s lone goal of the afternoon came from Lena Silano.

LONG BEACH, Calif. – In a very physical contest, Long Beach State suffered a 5-1 loss to the University of Washington on Sunday. The loss moves the Beach to 0-2-2 to start the season.

Washington jumped out front early with a goal in the 12tha minute for the first score of the match. They added another in the 28tha to make it 2-0 before the Beach could respond and end the shutout.

Long Beach State answered in the 34th on Lena Silano's second goal of the season. After Felicia Jastre Hogberg dribbled from the near corner to find the senior in the box. After juking a Husky defender, Silano sent a spinner far post to Alyssa Reyes who immediately gave it back for the score.

Silano now owns 13 career goals, which ranks tied for second most among active Big West student-athletes.

Unfortunately, Washington had a response of their own netting their third goal of the day just 20 seconds later giving them a 3-1 lead at the half.

The second half was a lot of back-and-forth until the Huskies added their fourth goal in the 85th minute and their fifth in the 89th minute to make the 5-1 final score.

The loss marks the first time Long Beach State has allowed three or more goals in a match since September 26, 2019 against BYU.

The Beach will continue their home stretch next week with Fresno State and the University of San Diego.
