Fifth year senior Jason Smith finished up his first of two scheduled events in Eugene this week.
EUGENE, Ore. – Jason Smith competed in his first of two events at the NCAA Championships this week, finishing 13th in Long Jump on Wednesday night.
Long Jump Results
The fifth year senior went 7.44m (24-5) on his first jump of the afternoon putting him in the thirteenth spot after everyone's first attempt. On the second time through, he improved on his mark with a jump of 7.52m (24-8.25). That jump would become his official mark, with his third and final attempt coming up short of that distance.
He entered the competition ranked 16th among the competitors in the finals, moving him up three spots in the overall rankings.
The top sixteen finish also gives the San Bruno native his second consecutive Second Team All-American honor and third in his career for the Long Jump. He is just the fifth Long Beach State student-athlete to achieve three All-America status in the same event and the first to do it since 1983.
Smith is not done in Eugene yet, as he will compete in the Triple Jump on Friday. Competition begins at 6:20 p.m. PT live on the WatchESPN app.
