
Turner, Kalmar to Compete in USATF U20 Championships

The freshman pair of Rahni Turner and Alex Kalmar will be on the national stage this weekend.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – The freshman pair of Rahni Turner and Alex Kalmar will be competing in the USA Track and Field U20 Outdoor Championships in Eugene this weekend. Turner will run in the women's 100m Hurdles while Kalmar will race in the men's 800m.

Turner had an impressive first year with Long Beach State totaling three 100m Hurdle event wins that included a victory in her preliminary heat at the Big West Championships. Her lifetime best time of 13.52 qualified her for the NCAA West Preliminaries in Arkansas this season becoming the first Beach student-athlete to qualify since 2016. The Mesa, Ariz. native ranks fourth in program history.
Among the U20 qualifiers, she ranks third fastest and will compete in the opening round on Friday, June 24 at 1:50 p.m. PT.
Kalmar dominated in his debut season at the Beach with six 800m wins combined between the indoor and outdoor seasons, including the MPSF Indoor Championship in February. At the Titan Tune-Up in May, the Temecula native picked up the 800m victory with an outdoor PR of 1:49.93 that ranked just outside Long Beach State's all-time top ten. His indoor lifetime-best came at the Air Force Invitational where his time of 1:52.80aa ranks seventh in program history.
He enters the U20 Championships with the fourth best time among the competitors and moves straight into the event finals on Saturday, June 25 at 4:09 p.m. PT.
The 2022 USATF U20 Outdoor Championships will serve as the selection event for the 2022 World Athletics U20 Championships. The top two finishers from each event will get to represent Team USA in Colombia for the World Championships August 1-6, 2022.
