Long Beach State Wraps up Multis Weekend of Big West Championships

The Beach finished opening weekend of the conference championships on Saturday afternoon.
DAVIS, Calif. - Long Beach State wrapped up the opening weekend of the Big West Championships with the conclusion of the men's Decathlon and women's Heptathlon on Saturday afternoon.

Spencer Eley finished ninth in the men's Decathlon wrapping up multis weekend with 5,806 points. His day two performances consisted of a dominant victory in Pole Vault as the only one to clear the bar at 4.71m (15-5.5) and a new lifetime-best in Javelin. His throw beat his previous PR by 11 inches at 39.87m (130-9) for an eighth place finish.
Clare Gibson led the trio of women's competitors with a ninth place finish totaling 4,292 points for the weekend. The senior set three more lifetime-bests on the day with a jump of 5.13m (16-10) in Long Jump, time of 2:40.03 in the 800m, and beat her previous best in Javelin by over three and a half feet with a throw of 30.96m (101-7).
Kayla Reynante was second among the Beach competitors, with 3,577 points for a twelfth place finish. She shattered her previous PR in Javelin by seven feet, posting a mark of 34.53 (113-3) to finish third. Hailey Fune finished just behind her in the Heptathlon standings with 3,393 total points. The sophomore dominated the Long Jump with a first place finish jump of 5.50m (18-0.5) for her second event win of the weekend.
Long Beach State will now spend the week preparing for the conference championships next week. UC Davis hosts the meet this year with competition all day Friday and Saturday of next week.
