Long Beach State Finishes Competition at NCAA West Preliminaries

5/28/2022 6:32:00 PM | Track and Field

The regional rounds are complete with a trio of women’s athletes competing on day four in Fayetteville.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Long Beach State wrapped up the NCAA West Preliminaries at the University of Arkansas on Saturday. Imani Carmouche was first on the day in High Jump followed by Ryley Fick in the 3000m Steeplechase and Crystal Washington in Triple Jump.

Day Four Results

Carmouche got the day started with a tremendous effort in High Jump. Clearing the first three bars on one attempt, she found herself tied for the top spot as the bar moved up to 1.81m (5-11.25). Despite missing on all three of her attempts, she still found herself in a qualifying spot. Unfortunately, the last jumper to go cleared it, pushing the senior into 13th just one position from moving on to the Championships.

Fick posted a time of 10:52.02 in the women's 3000m Steeplechase to close out her season. The Big West Co-Women's Track Athlete of the Year finished 14th in her heat in Arkansas and 40th overall on the day.

Washington was the final student-athlete in action on Saturday, competing in the Triple Jump. On her first attempt, she posted a jump of 12.54m (41-1.75) for her official mark. It was good for eighth in the second flight and 31st overall.

Next up for the Beach is the NCAA Championships where Jason Smith will be competing in both men's Long Jump and Triple Jump.
