ABOUT LAST WEEK
•   The Dirtbags put an end to their losing streak with a 2-2 week that included the first series win over UC Irvine since 2017.
•   In the midweek with San Diego State, the Dirtbags took a 2-1 lead into the sixth but a three-run inning for the Aztecs led to the 4-3 defeat which marked the tenth consecutive loss.
•   The streak was snapped on Friday though as the Dirtbags came out with a 6-2 victory over rival UC Irvine. Jonathon Carlos had a career day making the start and striking out nine in 3.2 innings of work.
•   In game two, Marques Johnson and Devereaux Harrison combined for the team's fifth shutout of the season securing the series with a 4-0 victory. All four runs came in the eighth on four consecutive singles.
•   The Dirtbags would end up on the wrong end of a pitchers' duel in the finale on Sunday. Juaron Watts-Brown was electric, striking out 10 in six innings of work, but an Anteater run in the seventh proved to be the difference in the 2-1 ballgame.

SNAPPING THE STREAK
•   The Dirtbags had a rough month of April that included a 10-game losing streak which was the longest since February 15, 2019 through March 3, 2019.
•   That all came to an end on Friday with Long Beach State beating UC Irvine 6-2 to open their weekend series. The six runs also snapped a streak of nine consecutive games scoring three runs or less.
•   On the other side of the ball, it was the first time the pitching staff had held an opponent to two runs or less since beating Cal Poly 28-2 on April 9.

ABOUT UCLA
•   The Bruins enter the week as a unaminous top ten program in the rankings with a 30-13 record overall and 14-7 mark which is second in the PAC-12.
•   The offense owns a .274/.394/.415 slash line averaging almost 6.5 runs per game. Their lineup has five guys hitting above .300 and six with an on-base percentage above .400. Cody Schier leads the way, starting all 43 games with team-highs in runs, hits, doubles, home runs, RBI, and slugging percentage.
•   The pitching staff has been the best part about the 2022 Bruins witha 3.35 ERA and a .224 opponent batting average. As a team, they are nationally ranked in the top ten in ERA, K/BB, WHIP, and BB/9.

AGAINST THE BRUINS
•   This will be the 117th meeting all-time between LBSU and UCLA with the Dirtbags trailing the all-time series 46-70. When playing at Blair Field, Long Beach State is 26-30 all-time.
•   Over the last 10 meetings, the DIrtbags are 4-6 overall and are 2-3 in the last five games at home.
•   The Bruins won the first matchup earlier this season on a first inning, three-run home run in what would end up being a 3-0 final.
