Orsi Hertzka scores five goals as Long Beach State picks up big conference win.
Long Beach, Calif. — No. 11 Long Beach State got a big performance from Orsi Hertzka Friday night as the senior scored five goals to guide the Beach to a 9-4 victory over No. 10 UC Davis at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
It was a crucial victory for the Beach as they move to 2-2 in Big West play with two games remaining in the regular season.
Hertzka wasted no time putting the Beach ahead after converting a penalty shot to put LBSU up 1-0 two minutes into the first period.
Elena Kotanchyan scored a minute later to put the Beach up 2-0 after the first period as the Beach held the Aggies scoreless.
Hertzka put the Beach up 3-0 a minute into the second before UCD's Kelly Hungerford cut the lead to 3-1.
LBSU went up 5-1 with three minutes left in the first half after Hertzka scored back-to-back goals to net a hat trick in the second period.
Defensively, the Beach (12-12, 2-2) shut the Aggies down offensively holding UCD to 20 percent on shot opportunities and 1-for-12 on powerplays including one 6-on-4 opportunity.
Gabriella Matafora-Adams scored twice and Marilia Mimides and Elena Kotanchyan scored once as the Long Beach State's seniors came up big in one of their final home contests at Ken Lindgren Aquatics Center.
The Beach will be back at home Sunday against Hawai'I at noon for Senior Day. Long Beach State will honor Elena Kotanchyan, Marilia Mimides, Pamela Solano, Orsi Hertzka and Gabriella Matafora-Adams after the contest.
