Long Beach State finished just three strokes off of the lead in the final event before the Big West Championship.

MARICOPA, Ariz. – Long Beach State closed out their best tournament of the season, finishing just three strokes off of the team lead at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic, holding on to their second place position from Monday behind Santa Clara.

Junior Hunter Pate had a round, finishing with a one-under par 71 to lead the team on the day, helping to atone for a first-round disqualification on a technicality which kept her at the bottom of the leaderboard. Today's round made a huge difference however and helped pace the way to a team score of 289 on the day, the second-best round Sunday in the 22-team field.

Sophomore Vanessa Richani was the low-scorer for the tournament for LBSU, finishing in a tie for 14th overall after closing the tournament with an even-par 72. Angelina Kim carded a 74 on Tuesday, finishing one stroke behind Richani after three rounds in a tie for 17th overall, and Hannah Ko birdied the final hole of the day to also finish even par, tied for 20th overall. All three finished in the Top 20, the best trio of results for LBSU this season in a field of 117 golfers, the most the Beach has squared off against this season.

Chloe Carraway had the non-counting score of the day with a 79, but still finished in the Top 50 for the tournament and was able to complete 54 holes for the first time since the fall.

Long Beach State finished two strokes in front of California Baptist in third place, while Grand Canyon and Nevada rounded out the Top 5. The Beach also was the top finisher of the four teams from the Big West, which included Hawai'i, UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton.

It's a quick turnaround for the Beach as Long Beach State will head to San Luis Obispo for the Big West Championship, co-hosted by Cal Poly and the Big West. The tournament will feature three rounds over three days starting on Sunday, April 10 at the San Luis Obispo Country Club.
