Long Beach State suffered a series loss to the Tritons after a 7-4 loss on Saturday.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State (13-12, 3-5 Big West) fell 7-4 to UC San Diego (11-15, 3-2 Big West) on Saturday. The loss gives the Dirtbags their second consecutive Big West series.
Long Beach State got the scoring started early scoring a run in the bottom of the first on a bases loaded walk to Sebastian Murillo. Unfortunately, that would be the only time they saw the lead on Saturday afternoon.
The Tritons answered with a three-run homer in the second, and then tacked on runs in the fourth, fifth, and two more in the seventh.
The Dirtbags plated runs in the third, eighth, and ninth trying to cut into the deficit, but could never get the big hit when they needed it stranding 12 runners on the base paths.
On the mound, Jack Noble got the start allowing three runs in three innings. He handed the ball off to Juaron Watts-Brown, who threw the next four innings, but surrendered four runs of his own. Jonathan Carlos was the bright spot on the bump, facing six batters and retiring all six including three strikeouts.
Offensively, Rocco Peppi, Chase Luttrell, and Jonathon Long all had multi-hit efforts while Murillo led the way with three RBI.
The Dirtbags will look to salvage a win in the series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch from Bohl Diamond at Blair Field will be at 1:00 p.m.
