Mimides Sets New Career High As The Beach Defeats CSUN

Northridge, Calif. - For the first half of Saturday's contest against No. 24 Cal State Northridge as No. 10 Long Beach State founds itself in a battle as the two teams went to halftime tied 6-6.

The Beach (14-13, 3-3) found itself rhythm in the second half as LBSU went on a 11-3 run to defeat the Matadors 17-9.

It was a historic afternoon for senior Marilia Mimides as she scored all of her career-high six goals in the second half as the Beach locked in defensively to come away with the hard-fought victory.

Along with Mimides, Lena Kotanchyan and Orsi Hertzka scored three goals as the Beach got a big lift from its senior leaders.

The Matadors gave LBSU a tough battle early on in the second period as CSUN scored five goals to tie the game.

Mimides scored two goals in the third period as the Beach locked in and pulled away for the win.

Mimides final goal was a buzzer-beater to give her six goals as time expired.

The Beach will now await their seeding for the Big West Tournament that will be next week in Hawai'i April 21-23.
