Long Beach State Falls In Tight Match At CSUN

Long Beach State again went the distance on the road, but lost 4-3 to the Matadors.
NORTHRIDGE, Calif. – For the second match in a row, the result came down to the final match, but Long Beach State came up short on the road at CSUN in a 4-3 defeat.
It was a strong start for Long Beach State (8-10, 3-5 Big West) as top doubles pair Zara Lennon and Sheena Masuda earned a quick win over Eira Tobrand and Camila Garcia of CSUN (8-7, 4-4 Big West), 6-3. The Beach then won the doubles point with Niki Homolkova and Peppi Ramstedt defeating Sasha Turchak and Ekaterina Repina, 6-2.
In singles, senior Zara Lennon quickly added to the Beach's score with her win over Ana Fraile Toboso 6-1, 6-1 to push to a 2-0 lead. The Matadors fought back with Ekaterina Repina's top flight win against Nikola Homolkova 6-2, 6-2. Zuzanna Sczcepanska added another point for Long Beach State with her victory against Vic Santibanez Luna 6-3, 6-3.
The three remaining singles matches all went to three sets, but the Matadors took all three to hold off the Beach at home. Magdalena Hedzrak won in the fourth flight 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 over Claire Le Du, and Sasha Turchak won 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 in the third flight to even the match. Jenna Dorian then clinched the victory for CSUN with a 6-1, 1-6, 6-4 win over Peppi Ramstedt.
The Beach finishes the regular season on Saturday, April 23 at 11 a.m., hosting UC Irvine in the Black and Blue Rivalry. Live coverage of the match will be available at beachlivestats.com
