Women’s Golf Climbs To Third After Second Day Of The Big West Championship

Long Beach State tied with Hawai’i for the lowest team score on the day at 10-over.
SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – Long Beach State made a climb up the leaderboard and sits in third place after two rounds at the Big West Championship hosted by Cal Poly.
Sophomore Hannah Ko had a pair of birdies on the way to a one-over 73 on the day, and is within striking distance of the tournament lead, four strokes back in a tie for fourth place. Angelina Kim and Vanessa Richani are also both in the Top 10 after two rounds. Kim shot a two-over par 74 Monday after three birdies in the back nine and is tied for seventh, while Richani is tied for ninth after carding a 76 for the second straight day.
Chloe Carraway was forced to withdraw due to injury, but that gave alternate Kristina Ponomareva a chance to shine. Helped by an eagle on the par five 10th, Ponomareva finished with a 3-over 75 in the first round of play for the true freshman, helping the Beach move past UC Riverside and Cal State Fullerton on the leaderboard Monday. Long Beach State and Hawai'i both finished the day with a 10-over 298, the best scores of the round.
Going into the final day, Hawai'i has a five stroke lead over Cal Poly in second place, while the Beach will need to make up eight strokes Tuesday to catch the Rainbow Wahine.
