No. 15 Long Beach State Goes 2-0 on Day One of Big West Challenge

The Beach only dropped one point with a 4-1 win over UC Davis and a sweep of No. 12 Cal Poly.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – No. 15 Long Beach State picked up two victories as they began the Big West Challenge, 2-0. The Beach defeated UC Davis, 4-1, in their first dual before sweeping No. 12 Cal Poly, 5-0, in their second dual of the day.
Against UC Davis, the Beach took down UC Davis by the score of 4-1. Sophie Major/Claire Newlander and Nicci Reinking/Katie Kennedy put LBSU out front early with two quick points in the fifth and third flights, respectively. Jillian Rodriguez/Emily Mattoon secured the dual in the fourth flight with 26-24 and 21-17 wins. After dropping the first set, Sydney Stevens/Katie Kennedy bounced back to take the two's and give the Beach their fourth point.
In their second match of the day, Long Beach State completed a sweep of No. 12 Cal Poly only dropping two sets in the dual. Mattoon/Rodriguez secured the dual in the third flight taking it in three sets after bouncing back from a first set loss. It is just the second time in program history the Beach has swept the Mustangs.
