Long Beach State Set to Host Big West Challenge this Weekend

All seven Big West beach volleyball programs will meet at Rosie’s Dog Beach for duals.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Coming off a split tri-dual last week, the Beach returns to Long Beach as they host the Big West Challenge at Rosie's Dog Beach. They will play six matches across the two days, including four on Saturday.
LBSU will play UC Davis and Cal Poly on Friday before closing out the weekend with Hawai'i, Sacramento State, CSU Bakersfield, and CSUN on Saturday. The first matches of each day for the Big West Challenge will begin at 9:30 a.m. both days.
There will be no live stats nor a live stream of any of the duals, but attendance is free for everyone. Action will take place across 12 courts simultaneously with two duals happening at the same time during each time frame.

- Long Beach State moves to No. 15 in the AVCA Coaches Poll.
- The Beach are 2-8 with all eight losses coming against programs ranked in the Top 20.
- Last week saw a split in Malibu with a close battle going in favor of then No. 18 Pepperdine to begin the day, followed by a clean sweep of Southern Miss.
- The duo of Emily Mattoon/Jillian Rodriguez own the best win percentage thus far, owning a 4-3 record primarily out of the fourth flight. Skyler Germann/Alice Pratesi have been the first flight for almost all of the duals, going 4-4 through the team's first 10 matches.
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
- Long Beach State will have their busiest weekend of the season taking on all six of their Big West opponents at Rosie's Dog Beach. Other than Hawai'i and Cal Poly, LBSU has never lost a dual to any of the other conference schools.
- UC Davis owns a 5-7 overall record, but have lost their last three matches. The Beach is 4-0 all-time against the Aggies and have only ever dropped one point in their matchups.
- Cal Poly enters the week ranked number 12 in the nation with a 10-8 overall record. The Mustangs won the dual against the Beach earlier this season and has won the last four meetings.
- The leader of the conference heading into the weekend is Hawai'i. The Rainbow Wahine are 10-5 on the year, ranking nine in the NCAA. UH leads the all-time series, 17-8, against LBSU
- Sacramento State is 3-4 on the year coming off a tri-dual split last weekend. Long Beach State has not lost to the Hornets in their six meetings all-time.
- CSU Bakersfield has shocked some people this season, posting a 6-3 record so far but have lost their last two. The Beach is 14-0 all-time against the 'Runners.
- The last Beach opponent of the weekend is CSUN, who own an 8-8 record on the year. LBSU is 15-0 all-time against the Matadors.
