Winners in six of their last seven, Long Beach State continues conference play with a series against the
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Long Beach State remains on the road this weekend, heading up to Northridge for a three-game set with CSUN for the second weekend of Big West play. The Dirtbags are coming off a dominant win at Fresno State and have won six of their last seven games.

ABOUT LAST WEEK
• The Dirtbags posted another 3-1 week last week with a midweek win over then No. 23 UConn followed by a conference opening series win over Hawai'i.
• Against the Huskies, Zach Voelker led the charge with six no-hit innings for his second win of the season. Offensively, the team drew a program record 13 walks while Luttrell and Porter notched two-hit games and Peppi and Long each recorded a pair of RBI.
• In game one against Hawai'i, it was all about the return of Luis Ramirez as he and Matt Fields combined for a two-hit shutout of the Rainbow Warriors. Ramirez tossed seven shutout innings with 10 punch outs in the 4-0 win.
• In game two, a ninth inning rally plated two runs for the Dirtbags to force extra innings. In the bottom of the tenth, Chris Jimenez became the hero launching a deep solo home run to left field and securing the series for Long Beach State.
• Game three went to Hawai'i as they jumped out an early 3-0 lead through three innings before a three-run home run made it 6-0 and put the game out of reach for the Dirtbags.
MIDWEEK MASHING
• The Dirtbags drove north for a midweek matchup with Fresno State on Tuesday night and put on a tremendous show offensively.
• They scored a season-high 19 runs and recorded a season-high 20 hits in a 19-7 rout of the Bulldogs. It was the first time, LBSU had registered seven doubles in a game since May 21, 2016.
• In the first two innings, the Dirtbags sent 22 batters to the plate (11 in each) and totaled 14 runs in their first two at-bats. Chase Luttrell registered two hits, two runs, and three RBI in the first inning alone.
• Luttrell finished the day 4-for-5 with two doubles, a home run, six RBI, and three runs scored. Finishing a triple shy of the cycle, he was pulled after hitting a ground-rule double in the fifth inning.
PRESEASON FAVORITES
• The Big West Conference announced the results of the preseason coaches' poll and the 'Bags were tabbed as the favorites in the league prior to opening day. They received 7 first-place votes and 97 total points.
• It marks the first time Long Beach State has been voted as the favorites since the 2008 preseason poll when they topped rival Cal State Fullerton by three points.
• UC Irvine (3 first place votes, 92 points) and UC Santa Barbara (1 first place votes, 81 points) also received first place votes and round out the top three in the poll.
AGAINST THE MATADORS
• This weekend will mark the 151st, 152nd, and 153rd games between Long Beach State and CSUN. LBSU leads the all-time series 84-66, but are 32-36 when playing in Northridge.
• Last year, the two teams split the four-game set in Long Beach. The last Big West series hosted by the Matadors went in favor of the Dirtbags winnning 2 of the three games.
ABOUT CSUN
• The Matadors enter the weekend with an 11-9 overall record, but were swept by Cal Poly in their conference opening series. Overall, they own series victories over Pacific and McNeese State.
• The offense is hitting .266/.358/.451 averaging 6.2 runs per game. Bart West owns a team-leading .380 average along with 3 homers and 10 RBI. Gabe Gonzalez has been the big bat, leading the team with six home runs and 19 RBI.
• The pitching staff owns a 4.39 team ERA with opponents hitting to a .279 clip. There are a lot of command issues as the staff has 82 walks in 172.1 innings. Blake Sodersten, the Friday night ace, leads the team with a 3.34 ERA, 32.1 innings, and 24 strikeouts.
