Beach Rolls To Series Win With Run-Rule Victory To Close Series At UC Riverside

Long Beach State piled up 12 runs on 12 hits in just five innings.
UC Riverside (9-15, 1-2 Big West) had the early edge in momentum, as Chrys Hildebrand set down the first six batters she faced over the first two innings for the Higlanders, and Fowler worked around five baserunners in the first two innings, but crucially didn't allow any to score as the first two innings passed with no score.
Long Beach State (12-15, 2-1 Big West) opened up the scoring in the third inning. Sinclair Lawhorn walked to open the inning, and after a bunt single, Ashleigh Inae singled to score the first run of the game. Corissa Sweet followed with a two-run single to make the score 3-0.
The Beach tacked on three more in the fourth inning after taking advantage of a UC Riverside error, and then broke thgouh in the fifth, batting around in the frame.
Sweet was plunked to put a first runner on, and Lilyanna Martinez hit her first single of the inning after coming on as a pinch runner in the fourth. A double from Marissa Caballero scored the first run of the inning, and Jacqueline Bickar singled home another run. A sac fly from Lawhorn pushed the edge to 8-0, and a double from pinch hitter Savannah Magadan added two more. Hits from Naomi Hernandez and Martinez for the second time in the fifth helped the Beach push the lead out to 12-0.
The Highlanders broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth, but Fowler finished off the complete game to pick up her third win of the season.
Long Beach State returns to the LBSU Softball Complex next weekend, hosting UC Davis starting on Saturday, March 26 as part of a six-game homestand.
