Long Beach State Falls In First Game Of Louisville Slugger Invitational

Long Beach State’s freshmen combine for four of the team’s six hits against Boston.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Marissa Caballero and Corissa Sweet each had a pair of hits, but Long Beach State dropped their first game of the Lousiville Slugger Invitational at the LBSU Softball Complex, falling 7-2 against Boston University.
Boston (11-10) took an early lead after picking up a pair of runs in the first inning. Caitlin Coker singled to start the rally, and after a walk, a single by Emily Gant scored two runs as the Terriers took an early lead.
The Beach answered back in the bottom half of the inning, as Corissa Sweet singled with two outs and then scored on an RBI single from Marissa Caballero to cut the lead to 2-1.
Boston would add to their lead, capitalizing on LBSU errors in the second and fourth innings to push their lead to 7-1. Sweet and Caballero each singled in the sixth, and Sweet would come around to score one more time on an RBI single from Ashleigh Inae, setting up the final score.
Allison Boaz finished with a complete game for Boston, improving to 6-3 on the year with the win for the Terriers.
The Louisville Slugger Invitational will be in full action with three games on Friday, March 11. The LBSU Softball Complex will play host to two games in the morning before Long Beach State will host Iowa State starting at 2 p.m.
