Vernoy Set for NCAA Indoor Championships

Senior Charlie Vernoy will compete at the NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Ala.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Senior Charlie Vernoy is heading to the NCAA Indoor Championships next week to compete in the men's weight throw. Competition will be at 2:00 p.m. PT live on ESPN3.
The Ventura native has had a remarkable 2022 indoor season winning all but one Weight Throw event, he competed in this year. In the final week of the indoor season, he came out victorious at the BYU Invitational II where he set a new lifetime-best in the event.
His mark of 21.93m (71'11.5") in Provo, Utah ranks 14th best in the country and second in Long Beach State program history. The throw also ranks first among all California Division I athletes this season.
With no indoor season last year, Vernoy will be the first Beach competitor since Jason Smith qualilfied in 2020 prior to the season coming to a halt. He is the first thrower in the NCAA Indoor Championships since James Hubbard in 2017.
The NCAA Indoor Championships feature the top 16 marks in the country to compete for the event championship. This year's championships will take place at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala.
